OpenAI says its frontier models and Codex agentic workflows are coming to Google Cloud's Model Garden within weeks; Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.

OpenAI announced on Wednesday, Oct. 21, that it is partnering with Google Cloud to bring its frontier models and Codex agentic workflows into Google Cloud's Model Garden, with general availability planned in the coming weeks. Customers can request access now and will be able to purchase the models through the Google Cloud Marketplace, drawing down existing cloud spend commitments.

OpenAI president Greg Brockman called it "an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building," while Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the company is focused on giving customers a broad selection of models. The models will also soon appear in Google's Antigravity tool and the Gemini Agent.

OpenAI stressed that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner. The move follows the end of Microsoft's exclusive license less than six months ago: Amazon began hosting OpenAI models in April, and Google now completes the set. Google Cloud's second-quarter revenue growth accelerated to about 82%, driven by AI workloads and custom chips, according to reports.

Analysts note hyperscalers are becoming the main commercial channels for frontier AI labs, typically taking a cut of platform sales, while the labs expand beyond ChatGPT's consumer base into enterprise business.
