Tesla Says Owners Could Add Their Cars to the Robotaxi Fleet by Q2 2027

· N GLOBE

On its Q3 2026 earnings call, Tesla said customer vehicles could join the Robotaxi network around Q2 2027 — only inside existing geofenced service zones and managed by Tesla. FSD subscriptions hit 1.74 million.

What happened

On its Q3 2026 earnings call on October 21, Tesla Autopilot VP Ashok Elluswamy said owners could add their own vehicles to the Robotaxi fleet starting around Q2 2027: we suspect somewhere around Q2 next year is when we can turn on some of the first customer vehicles to be part of the robotaxi fleet.

Two big caveats

It is not unsupervised driving everywhere: customer cars would operate driverless only inside the Robotaxi network's existing geofenced zones, dispatched and managed by Tesla. The timeline for unsupervised FSD on customer-owned cars was also pushed to Q2 2027.

The numbers

Active FSD subscriptions reached 1.74 million, up from 1.48 million in Q2 and 1.04 million a year ago; FSD is now available in 9 European countries.

Why to read it with caution

Musk has a long history of missed self-driving deadlines, and this time the company used estimate and target rather than a promise. The Verge and Electrek both note that actual rollout depends on regulatory approvals and validation progress.
