Trump reiterates pledge: $5,000 checks for every adult citizen if GOP keeps Congress

In a Truth Social video on Oct. 3, Trump repeated his promise that if Republicans keep the House and Senate in the November midterms, every adult U.S. citizen would receive a $5,000 "Republican Dividend." No legislation or payout timeline exists yet.
Why it matters
The biggest-dollar campaign pledge of the midterm season, tying votes directly to cash checks — but funding, eligibility and the legislative process are all undefined.
What happened
In a video posted to Truth Social on Saturday, Oct. 3, Trump said that if Republicans retain their House and Senate majorities in the November midterms, "every adult American citizen" would get a $5,000 check, which he called the "Republican Dividend." He said the money would come from tariff revenue and "record economic success," estimating the total at about $1 trillion. The pledge was first made on Sept. 9 at a GOP midterm rally in Dallas; Vice President Vance has hinted the funds could come from tariff income, with wealthy Americans excluded.
What remains unclear
There is currently no legislation, eligibility criteria, appropriation, or payout timeline (confirmed by latestly and newsbeep). Trump also warned that a Democratic midterm victory would bring a depression "like 1929."
