Trump calls off livestream of Fort Hood shooter's firing-squad execution

Trump announced Thursday the Pentagon will not livestream Nidal Hasan's execution, reversing the defense secretary's plan; 80% of Americans oppose a livestream, a new poll finds.
Why it matters
President Trump announced Thursday on Truth Social that the Pentagon will not livestream the firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the 2009 Fort Hood shooter, reversing a plan Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced last week. The plan had drawn bipartisan backlash.
Full report
The execution is still set for December 3 and the method is unchanged (firing squad); victims' families will still be able to witness it in person. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed Trump had discussed the decision with Hegseth beforehand.
An ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released the same day found 80% of American adults oppose livestreaming the execution, including 64% of Republicans. Lawmakers from both parties and victims' family groups had condemned the plan since Hegseth announced it last week.
Trump wrote that a livestream would be inappropriate and called it off.
Background
Hasan killed 13 people and wounded more than 30 in the 2009 shooting at the Army base in Texas and was sentenced to death by a military court in 2013. If carried out, it would be the U.S. military's first execution in decades.
