During President Xi Jinping's state visit to Washington, US President Donald Trump and Xi agreed to establish a US–China 'Super Intelligence (SI) Dialogue' to exchange views on the risks and benefits of advanced AI, with the first exchange due by November 2026.
According to the White House fact sheet, the two sides also agreed to set up a bilateral communication channel for SI incidents; China's Foreign Ministry said the two militaries would sign an MOU on strengthening crisis communications. Notably, both sides will henceforth use 'super intelligence' instead of 'artificial intelligence' in official communications — Trump said the word 'artificial' makes it sound fake.
On trade, the leaders reached consensus on 'more favourable tariff treatment' covering about $30 billion of non-sensitive goods in each direction — US agricultural products, wood and cosmetics, and Chinese small appliances, toys and decorations — with no tariff rates or timeline disclosed; the trade truce was extended by two months to January 10, 2027. The White House also said China agreed to import at least 10 million metric tons of US coal in 2027 and another 10 million in 2028 — a commitment absent from China's published outcome list.
On Iran and international waterways, the two sides aligned: Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, and no country may impose tolls on international waterways — a response to Iran's recent claims over the Strait of Hormuz.
