Ipsos' new poll shows BC Conservatives at 42%, ahead of the NDP at 40%, with the Oct 24 snap election now a statistical tie; both leaders campaigned in the Okanagan on Friday.

Why it matters

British Columbians vote on October 24, 2026 in a snap provincial election Premier David Eby called early. The race, which looked like a comfortable NDP lead a month ago, has suddenly tightened into a statistical tie.

Full report

A new Ipsos poll, conducted September 25–29 in partnership with Global BC and published October 1, 2026, puts the BC Conservatives at 42 per cent among decided voters — up seven points — ahead of the BC NDP at 40 per cent, down five. The Greens sit at 10 per cent, with OneBC and CentreBC at 3 per cent each. Twenty-seven per cent of respondents were undecided.

The swing followed the resignation of Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay and the choice of two-term MLA Lorne Doerkson as interim leader. Premier David Eby's personal numbers have also worsened: 37 per cent favourable, down four, and 37 per cent unfavourable, up seven. Ipsos says the shift "makes the NDP's decision to call an early election look increasingly risky."

Both leaders campaigned in the Okanagan on Friday: Eby's NDP promised to cap grocery profits, while Doerkson's Conservatives unveiled a wildfire protection plan. The Conservatives have also promised measures to lower gas costs. The top issues for voters remain the cost of living, health care and housing affordability — the issues that will decide seats in Vancouver and across the province on October 24.
