Vancouver Canucks fall 4-1 to Devils as Hischier nets 200th career goal

The Canucks dropped their third straight Saturday in Newark, 4-1 to the Devils; Nico Hischier scored twice including his 200th NHL goal, and Jake Allen won his 500th career game.
Why it matters
The Canucks are 2-4-0 to open the season and have been outscored 14-5 during a three-game skid. They are 0-2-0 to begin a six-game road trip, with a leaky penalty kill the main culprit — and four more road games in six nights still to come, starting Sunday at the New York Rangers.
Full report
The Vancouver Canucks lost 4-1 to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, October 10, at the Prudential Center in Newark, their third straight defeat.
Linus Karlsson gave Vancouver a 1-0 lead at 5:27 of the first period on the power play, converting a feed from Brock Boeser for his first goal of the season. Devils captain Nico Hischier answered on the power play shortly after — his first goal of the season and the 200th of his NHL career, making him the fifth Swiss player to reach the milestone.
Jesper Boqvist knocked home a rebound off rookie Amadeus Lombardi's shot late in the first for a 2-1 Devils lead — Lombardi's first career point. Jesper Bratt extended the lead 4:35 into the second, and Hischier added another power-play tally as New Jersey went 3-for-4 with the man advantage to seal the 4-1 win.
Jake Allen made 20 saves to earn the win in his 500th career NHL game. Vancouver's Leevi Merilainen stopped 31 shots in the loss; Kevin Lankinen made two saves on three shots in a brief relief appearance.
The Canucks visit the New York Rangers on Sunday; the Devils host Ottawa on Monday night.
