At about 12:43 a.m. on Oct. 7, a 57-year-old man was sitting alone on a park bench near Beach Avenue and Davie Street. A stranger approached without warning, splashed an accelerant on the man's pant leg and set it on fire, then fled. The victim stomped out the flames and was not injured.

Vancouver Police spokesperson Constable Darren Wong called it a "completely unprovoked, random attack." The suspect is described as about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, wearing dark clothing, and remains at large.

Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to call the non-emergency line at 604-717-3321.
