The City of Vancouver says mail-in ballot applications are at a record high, with the online deadline for a mailed package at noon today.

Why it matters

The City of Vancouver says mail-in ballot applications for this municipal election have topped 18,000 — more than 70% above the 2022 total of 10,523 — a new record. Today (Oct. 5) at noon is the last chance to apply online for a ballot package to be mailed out; after that, voters can still apply in person at the election office (305 West 8th Ave) for pickup until noon on Oct. 13.

Full report

Advance voting began Saturday, Oct. 3, with three more days to come: Oct. 7, Oct. 10 and Oct. 13 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.). There are 59 advance voting places across the city — nearly triple the previous election.

General voting day is Saturday, Oct. 17; all ballots must be received by 8 p.m. that night — postmarks do not count, and drop boxes are available.

Besides electing the mayor, 10 councillors, Park Board and school board members, the ballot carries three capital plan borrowing questions and two public safety plebiscite questions: whether to change the bylaw on open use of hard drugs, and whether to lobby the province for more voluntary and involuntary addiction treatment beds.
