Vancouver Gets First Nonstop Flight to Mexico's Bajío Region: Flair Launches Weekly YVR–Guanajuato Service

· N GLOBE

Flair Airlines launched the first-ever nonstop between Vancouver (YVR) and Guanajuato (BJX) on Oct 3 — the first direct air link between Canada and Mexico's Bajío region — with weekly Boeing 737 MAX 8 service and fares from $189 one-way.

Why it matters

Travellers in Western Canada can now fly nonstop into Mexico's cultural heartland without connecting through Mexico City or Guadalajara. It is also Flair's first route into the Bajío, giving B.C.'s Mexican community and business travellers a new low-cost link between the two countries.

Full report

The inaugural flight departed Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Saturday, October 3, landing at Guanajuato International Airport (BJX, near León). The route operates once a week on a Boeing 737 MAX 8.

"Flair looks for opportunities to connect Canadians to places that haven't been well served, and the Bajío is a great example," said Flair CEO Len Corrado. "This route gives Canadians their first nonstop connection to an important region of Mexico."

BJX is the gateway to León, Guanajuato City, San Miguel de Allende and Dolores Hidalgo. Russell Atkinson, who runs air service development at Vancouver airport, called it the first direct link between Canada and the Bajío and said it also serves British Columbia's Mexican community.

Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo said the route will boost tourism and strengthen ties between the two communities. Introductory fares start at $189 one-way; launch fares were listed from $184 out of Vancouver and $176 out of Guanajuato. Tickets are on sale at flyflair.com.
