Full report

Around 11 p.m. on October 21, two Calgary tourists were assaulted at Abbott Street and West Cordova Street, near Gastown in downtown Vancouver. The pair had just attended Bruno Mars's concert that evening — the final show of his five-night run — and were walking back.

A Vancouver Police Department patrol officer witnessed the altercation, intervened immediately and arrested the suspect on the spot. The man allegedly struck the male victim's arm with a sharp object believed to be glass; the victim suffered a cut to his left forearm and was treated at the scene by paramedics. The force of the attack also pushed the female victim into a nearby lamppost.

The suspect is 34-year-old Derek Dale Driscoll, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants for alleged breach of probation and failure to appear. He has been charged with three counts — assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon — and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
