Seat structure caught fire; smoke forced the shutdown
According to TransLink and local media, the fire started in a seating structure under the station and spread to the guideway pillar. Firefighters responded, trains on the affected section were halted, and TransLink deployed more than 20 shuttle buses for passengers. Engineers inspected the pillar and confirmed it was safe before service resumed at about 11:20 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Second major traffic disruption the same day
At 10:39 a.m. the same day, a semi-trailer struck the Ladner Trunk Road overpass in Delta, closing southbound Highway 99 for more than four hours. It was the eighth overpass strike in British Columbia this year and the 85th since late 2021. Authorities reminded drivers to watch vehicle heights and obey clearance signs.
