Vancouver police said on October 24 that Maung Maung, 59, who walked away from a South Vancouver care home on October 21, has been located safe and has returned home, thanking the public and media for their help.

Why it matters

This missing-person appeal ended the best way it could: the man has dementia and speaks limited English, and he had been on his own for more than two days. Police issued a public appeal on October 23, and the next day confirmed he was safe at home.

Full report

Vancouver police said Maung Maung, 59, left his care home near Heather Street and West 57th Avenue in South Vancouver at about 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, and had not been seen since.
