Vancouver election one week out: mayoral race a statistical tie

· N GLOBE

With voting day Oct 17 one week away, a Canada Pulse Insights poll puts Green candidate Pete Fry at 28% and incumbent Mayor Ken Sim at 27% — a statistical tie. Advance voting is Oct 10 and 13.

Why it matters

Vancouver's mayoral race is a dead heat with one week to go. Whether the incumbent holds on will decide the council majority and the next four years of housing and public-safety policy.

Full report

Vancouver's municipal election is Saturday, Oct 17, with advance voting on Oct 10 and 13. A Canada Pulse Insights poll conducted Sept 28–Oct 6 shows Green candidate Pete Fry at 28%, incumbent ABC Mayor Ken Sim at 27%, Vancouver Liberals' Kareem Allam at 19%, TEAM's Colleen Hardwick at 13% and Vote Vancouver's Rebecca Bligh at 7%. The Fry–Sim gap is within the margin of error — effectively a tie. The poll was reported by the Vancouver Sun on Oct 9.

Eight candidates are running for mayor, with 55 council nominees. Notably, an earlier Justason poll (late Aug–mid Sept) had Fry leading at 45%, suggesting the race has tightened considerably over the past month.
