Mayor Muriel Bowser issued a statement following the signing of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026, which bundles the Financial Services and General Government Act with the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act.
The legislation delivers $90 million for the District's Emergency Planning and Security Fund, which reimburses the city for policing, emergency preparedness and traffic management around large-scale events.
It also fully funds the DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) program with increased grant support to help more District students afford higher education, maintains funding for public, charter and private schools through the SOAR Act, and supports HIV and AIDS prevention efforts.
Community Project Funding secured includes $850,000 for Suitland Parkway safety enhancements, $850,000 for Duke Ellington Park upgrades, $850,000 for Lederer Gardens facility improvements, $600,000 for Riggs & South Dakota Triangle Park, $500,000 for Carver Langston Park, and $250,000 for solar charging of Capital eBikes.
Bowser thanked congressional leaders, including House and Senate committee chairs Dave Joyce and Bill Hagerty, ranking members Steny Hoyer and Jack Reed, and Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, for ensuring District residents have a voice in the federal funding process. "With these investments, Washington, DC is ready to deliver a safe, vibrant, and inclusive experience for residents and visitors during America's 250th anniversary and beyond," she said.
