Washington, D.C. Hit-and-Run Solved: Man Charged With Second-Degree Murder

DC's Metropolitan Police Department announced the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Northeast on July 27 before fleeing on foot was arrested Oct 7 and charged with second-degree murder; the victim was 45-year-old Shana Battle of Laurel, Maryland.

The crash
At about 12:45 a.m. on July 27, Fifth District officers responded to the intersection of Bladensburg Road and South Dakota Avenue NE, where they found a seriously injured woman in an adjacent park; DC Fire and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene. The victim was 45-year-old Shana Battle of Laurel, Maryland. The preliminary investigation found an Audi Q7 traveling southbound on South Dakota Avenue drove into a park area between Franklin Street and Bladensburg Road, struck the pedestrian, and the driver fled on foot before officers arrived.
The arrest
On Oct 7, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 46-year-old Marvin Bonilla Martinez, of no fixed address, charging him with second-degree murder.
