National Guard member deployed to Washington, D.C., arrested on firearms charge

A 22-year-old Oklahoma Guard member was arrested after a Park Police traffic stop found a firearm in his personal vehicle.
Why it matters
A National Guard member deployed to Washington, D.C., under President Donald Trump's emergency order from August 2025 was arrested Monday, October 12, for carrying an unauthorized firearm. The Associated Press, citing court documents, reports it is the second arrest of a task-force member in two months.
What happened
Spec. Jakob Noonan, 22, of the Oklahoma Guard, was stopped by U.S. Park Police over an expired vehicle tag while riding in a Honda SUV with a fellow Guard member. Officers spotted an empty holster in the vehicle and Noonan confirmed there was a firearm inside, according to law enforcement statements filed with the arrest. Park Police said in a statement that Noonan was off duty, not in uniform, and driving his personal vehicle at the time. The Joint Task Force overseeing the Guard deployment did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Guard presence in Washington has been contentious since Trump ordered the deployment, saying crime was out of control; local officials and residents have questioned the mission.
