Joint commission in Beijing, import expo in Shanghai

In Beijing, Sidhu will co-lead the Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETC) meeting with China's Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao. In Shanghai, he will meet government officials, investors and businesses, including at the China International Import Expo, one of the world's largest trade and investment events, where Canada is the Guest Country of Honour.

Building on the January visit

The visit builds on Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to Beijing in January 2026, when Canada and China unlocked a new trade arrangement. Sidhu said that arrangement unlocked $7 billion of new opportunities for Canadian businesses, and that merchandise exports to China grew by 31.4% in the first half of this year to $21.5 billion. China is Canada's second-largest single-country trading partner.
