Delhi Police's South District has refused permission for Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh's Aura India Tour concert scheduled for Oct 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, citing threat-related inputs and festive-season security commitments; organizers have yet to announce cancellation or new plans.

Why it matters

The office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, issued an order on Oct. 21 denying permission for singer Diljit Dosanjh's Aura India Tour concert scheduled for Oct. 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium in New Delhi. The show was to open the India leg of his tour, and with eight days to go, ticket holders have no clarity on whether it will be cancelled, postponed, or moved.

Why permission was denied

According to a letter to ticketing platform BookMyShow, police reviewed the application submitted on Oct. 14 and concluded that "in view of the specific threat-related inputs," along with heavy security and law-and-order commitments during the ongoing festive season and other law-and-order concerns, "the same cannot be acceded to." The letter does not detail the threat.

Reactions and what's next

AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bhardwaj condemned the decision, calling it "India's misfortune." As of Oct. 22, Dosanjh's team and organizers had not formally announced a cancellation or alternative plans, leaving the concert's status uncertain. Notably, the show was originally set for Nov. 1 and moved to Oct. 30 after Punjab Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Sahney's appeal, since Nov. 1 marks the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Dosanjh had also earlier warned fans about fake volunteer-recruitment accounts for the Delhi show — a fraud advisory unrelated to the denial.
