Dubai Maritime Authority Issues New Rules for Leisure Boat Anchoring

· N GLOBE

The Dubai Maritime Authority has issued Circular No. 35 of 2026, standardising leisure anchoring and recreational mooring buoys in Dubai waters to strengthen navigational safety and environmental protection.

Why it matters

The new rules give boat and yacht owners, operators, marinas and marine service providers a unified framework for safe, orderly anchoring; incidents and emergencies must be reported immediately. Dubai's recreational marine sector has grown rapidly in recent years, and common standards should lower navigational risks.

Key points

Circular No. 35 of 2026 covers the use of leisure anchorage areas and recreational mooring buoys. The authority will monitor implementation to ensure compliance with anchoring requirements, collision-prevention rules and marine-environment protection standards. DMA CEO Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum said compliance is the shared responsibility of everyone venturing out to sea.
