Dubai Metro Gold Line: $9.2bn, 42km and 18 stations, aimed for September 2032 opening

Dubai's RTA has unveiled details of the Gold Line: a fully underground 42km metro line with six contractor groups prequalified, targeted to open in September 2032.
Why it matters
The Gold Line will be Dubai's first fully underground metro line, costing AED 34 billion (about $9.2 billion). It will add 35% to the total length of the Dubai Metro and directly serve 1.5 million residents across 15 communities — a key infrastructure bet as the city's population and real-estate boom keep expanding.
Project details
The 42km fully underground line will have 18 stations across 15 areas and connect with the Etihad Rail passenger network; more than 55 real-estate developments under construction sit along the route.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued the prequalification call in June, and six international contracting groups submitted prequalification statements on October 9. The winning consortium will handle design, rolling stock, rail systems and civil works, plus the first three years of operation and maintenance; Aecom won the consultancy contract last October.
The RTA is targeting full operation by September 2032 — also the project's biggest challenge: safely tunnelling 42km underground in Dubai while integrating smoothly with the existing Red and Green lines.
