Dubai Signs Pony.ai to Bring Robotaxi Fleet to the Emirate

Pony.ai announced on October 20 a memorandum of understanding with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority to deploy its robotaxi fleet in Dubai, with plans to integrate driverless taxis into the city's metro, tram and maritime network.
Why it matters
Pony.ai on October 20 announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to deploy its advanced robotaxi fleet in Dubai. The deal marks a milestone for Pony.ai in the Middle East — it already holds robotaxi testing permits in four markets: the United States, China, South Korea and Luxembourg.
Full report
Under the MoU, Pony.ai's driverless fleet will operate in Dubai. Longer-term plans call for integrating robotaxi services with Dubai's multimodal transport network — metro, tram and maritime routes — so autonomous vehicles complement existing infrastructure, smoothing journeys and cutting the city's carbon footprint.
The company says the goal is to give Dubai residents and visitors "driverless tech that's not just greener and safer, but genuinely makes getting around this city easier for everyone" (company statement).
Context: Dubai aims for one in four trips to be autonomous by 2030. RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer said last week at the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum that Dubai's roads now carry more than 11 million trips a day, and the city is studying a "three-dimensional" transport system including an underground network — with driverless mobility as one pillar.
