Lagos begins 35-day Ozumba Mbadiwe Road rehabilitation Oct. 19 with contraflow and diversions

The Lagos State Government will rehabilitate Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, the key Victoria Island–Lekki corridor, for 35 days starting Monday Oct. 19, with contraflow on the Lagos-bound lane and published alternative routes; LASTMA officers will be deployed.
Why it matters
The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, commencing Monday, Oct. 19. The works cover the stretch from Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre to Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ — a critical artery of the Victoria Island–Lekki corridor — and include road resurfacing, asphalt works and drainage clearing.
Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi disclosed the plan in a traffic advisory issued Thursday, Oct. 15: a contraflow arrangement will operate on the Lagos-bound carriageway, from Samuel Manuwa Street toward the Civic Centre, while rehabilitation proceeds on the opposite lane. Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed at key access points to enforce traffic flow and guide motorists.
Alternative routes
The advisory maps out alternatives: motorists from Bonny Camp/Falomo heading to Civic Centre/Lekki should use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, link Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and connect to Bishop Aboyade Cole Street, rejoining the expressway at School Corner (Black Diamond) toward Sandfield. From Falomo toward Akin Adesola Street: go through IMB to the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Street, then Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Ayorinde Street toward Black Diamond. From Bonny Camp: Ahmadu Bello Way to Eko Hotel Roundabout via the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. The government urged motorists to plan their movement and obey traffic officials.
