London wakes to dense fog: Met Office yellow warning, visibility below 100 metres, some flights may be delayed

The UK Met Office issued a yellow fog warning for London and large parts of England and Wales from midnight to 10:00 UTC on Sunday, November 1, with visibility falling below 100 metres in the densest patches and road, rail and air travel all at risk of disruption; Ryanair warned some UK flights may be delayed.
The UK Met Office issued a yellow fog warning for London and large parts of England and Wales from midnight to 10:00 UTC on Sunday, November 1, warning that fog would be dense in places, with visibility falling below 100 metres in the worst-affected patches, and that road journeys, railway services and flights could face delays or cancellations. After the warning expired at 10:00, the fog gradually lifted and London was left largely overcast, with afternoon temperatures near 12°C.
Warning covered much of England and parts of Wales
Beyond London, the warning covered the East Midlands, East of England, South East England, North West England, South West England, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber, as well as parts of Wales including Denbighshire, Monmouthshire, Powys, Torfaen and Wrexham. The Met Office advised motorists to check road conditions before setting out, make sure fog lights were working, and allow extra time for journeys.
Ryanair: some UK flights may be delayed; more settled weather expected early in the week
Ryanair warned passengers travelling to and from the UK on Sunday that some flights may be delayed because of the heavy fog, saying affected passengers would be contacted directly through the app and should monitor it for the latest information. Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said on Sunday morning that most of the fog was starting to lift and clear, but travellers should still allow extra time, use fog lights and be prepared for some travel disruption. He added that high pressure would dominate in the coming days, bringing drier weather and even some sunny spells to much of the country. The fog followed a wet spell in England driven by successive named storms Austen and Boelo, which made it the country's wettest week in about two years.
