Toronto Mayoral Race Enters Final Week With Dueling Polls: Bradford Edges Ahead in One, Chow Leads by 7 in Another

· N GLOBE

Two polls published October 20 tell opposite stories: Mainstreet has Brad Bradford narrowly ahead at 48.9% to 47.5%; Pollara has incumbent Olivia Chow up 7 points among decided voters, 53% to 46%. Election day is October 26.

Why it matters

With less than a week to the October 26 vote, two pollsters published same-day surveys with contradictory results, turning the race into a genuine toss-up. Mainstreet calls it a "seismic shift" with Bradford now holding the upper hand; Pollara shows Chow with a steady 7-point lead. The CP24 debate on October 22 at 7 p.m. could prove decisive.

Full report

A Mainstreet Research poll published October 20 (conducted October 16–18 among 1,000 Toronto adults via interactive voice response, margin of error ±3.1%) found Brad Bradford at 48.9% support and incumbent Mayor Olivia Chow at a "nearly equal" 47.5%, with 13% undecided. President and CEO Quito Maggi called it a "seismic shift," noting Bradford now leads in Etobicoke and North York while Chow leads in Scarborough and downtown, and adding that "this race is truly too close to call, but Bradford now has the upper hand."

A Pollara Strategic Insights poll published the same day painted a very different picture: among decided voters, Chow leads Bradford by 7 points, 53% to 46%; including undecided voters, Chow sits at 44%, Bradford at 38%, with 16% undecided. The gender gap is stark: Chow leads among decided women 60% to 39%, while decided men lean to Bradford 52% to 45%.

Pollara also found that 62% of Torontonians are concerned about the possibility of Toronto Water being privatized, with 38% very concerned — up from 60% in its early-October fieldwork; even 27% of Bradford supporters say they are concerned.

Toronto's mayoral election is on Monday, October 26. CP24 will broadcast a live mayoral debate on October 22 at 7 p.m., where the two candidates will face off directly.
