Olivia Rodrigo has released her first Christmas single, “take me home (4 christmas)”, with the song and its music video arriving on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. ET. The video stars Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live's Ben Marshall, playing out the awkward thrill of spending Christmas at a boyfriend's family home for the first time. A Christmas of firsts — exciting and awkward
Rodrigo co-wrote the track with longtime collaborators Dan Nigro and Amy Allen; Nigro also produced it. Blending alternative pop with indie rock, the song is about the excitement and awkwardness of going home for the holidays and meeting a partner's family for the first time. Rodrigo said on social media that she wrote the song with Nigro and Allen last summer and was happy to finally share it as Christmas approaches.
The video opens in the aftermath of a wild festive party, then moves between two contrasting settings: Marshall plays the boyfriend, Nixon plays his mother, and Rodrigo tries to win over the whole family.
Vinyl and cassette on sale, following October's hit
The single is also available in limited physical editions: a 7-inch vinyl and a cassette are available to pre-order, with the vinyl reaching stores on Friday. Its B-side is another new song, “miss this christmas”.
The release follows October's “expectations” remix featuring Chappell Roan, which became the highest-peaking all-female collaboration on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2026.
