Oracle expands OpenAI partnership: ChatGPT and Codex move into enterprise software

· N GLOBE

Oracle announced an expanded collaboration with OpenAI on October 27 at Oracle AI World in Las Vegas, launching four new offerings that bring ChatGPT, Codex and frontier models into Oracle's enterprise applications, data and cloud infrastructure, spanning everyday operations, application development, cybersecurity and small-business creation; the AI Workspace is still in development, and schedules and pricing may change.

Oracle and OpenAI have expanded their partnership to put artificial intelligence directly into the systems businesses use every day. On October 27, Oracle announced four new offerings at Oracle AI World in Las Vegas: Oracle AI Workspace, Oracle AI Security Mesh, Oracle App Composer and Oracle AI SMB Bundle — aimed at helping employees work across systems in natural language, developers build applications faster, security teams find vulnerabilities sooner, and founders get an integrated platform to start a company.

The centrepiece: running business workflows through ChatGPT

The centrepiece is Oracle AI Workspace: through plugins in ChatGPT, employees can access information in Oracle Fusion Applications, NetSuite, the AI Database and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and complete authorised business workflows across connected systems. Oracle says existing governance rules, approval chains and access controls stay intact, so the convenience of a chatbot does not come at the expense of the permissions structures enterprises already rely on. One caveat matters: OpenAI says the Workspace is still being developed, and Oracle's release notes that development schedules and pricing may change — not every described feature is generally available yet.

Development, security and small business

Oracle App Composer lets developers use coding tools including Codex to build applications connected to approved company data, with Oracle managing deployment on its cloud infrastructure. Oracle AI Security Mesh is aimed at security teams probing systems for vulnerabilities. The Oracle AI SMB Bundle packages the stack for smaller businesses and, according to reports, includes $12,000 a year in Oracle cloud credits, so a small company can start without heavy setup. Separately, Oracle customers in the United States can purchase access to the OpenAI API, Codex and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace using eligible Oracle Universal Credits.

What the two companies say, and why it matters

Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk said the new product suite unites OpenAI's transformative AI capabilities with the Oracle applications, data and cloud infrastructure that businesses around the world rely on to run their most critical operations. OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman said the expanded partnership helps bring frontier AI into everyday operations so teams can build software faster, strengthen security and take on more complex knowledge work. The deal extends an already deep infrastructure bond between the two companies — Oracle is a major part of OpenAI's computing footprint — and it signals that the AI assistant race is shifting from individual users to the enterprise workflows themselves.
