Hong Kong's Huanggang crossing braces for first holiday rush since revamp, 100,000+ daily crossings expected

· N GLOBE

Security Secretary Chris Tang said the revamped Huanggang crossing handled about 92,000 passenger journeys on Friday, with daily traffic expected to top 100,000 over the Chung Yeung long weekend.

Why it matters

The revamped Huanggang crossing is facing its first holiday travel peak. Security Secretary Chris Tang said on Saturday (October 17) that daily passenger journeys are expected to exceed 100,000 over the three-day Chung Yeung long weekend — an early test of the new facilities and the transport links between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Full report

Tang said the crossing had handled about 80,000 passenger journeys a day from Monday to Thursday, rising to around 92,000 on Friday. Under the new co-location and joint-clearance arrangements, border clearance usually takes less than five minutes, and operations have generally run smoothly.

Authorities have arranged sufficient staffing to open all automated and manual inspection channels when needed, and deployed additional personnel at the public transport interchange to manage passenger flows.
