New York's Village Halloween Parade takes Sixth Avenue tonight; costumed marchers welcome

The Village Halloween Parade marches up Manhattan's Sixth Avenue from 7 p.m. on Saturday, free to watch and join in costume; NYC DOT closes Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to West 18th Street.
New York's annual Village Halloween Parade takes over Manhattan tonight: the parade heads up Sixth Avenue from 7 p.m. until about 11 p.m., it is free, and organizers say anyone in costume can march. With road closures and large crowds, the city advises spectators to take the subway and arrive early.
Street closures
According to the New York City Department of Transportation's weekend traffic advisory, Sixth Avenue is closed from Spring Street to West 18th Street. The parade forms on Sixth Avenue between Spring and Canal streets, with Dominick, Sullivan, Broome and Spring streets nearby also used for formation; dispersal covers West 16th, 17th and 18th streets between Fifth and Seventh avenues. Organizers say crowds are heaviest between Bleecker and 14th streets, and drivers or ride-hail users should set pickup points east of Fifth Avenue or west of Seventh Avenue.
A 5K closes Midtown streets in the morning
The Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K, part of New York City Marathon week, also closes streets on Saturday morning, including East 47th Street, First Avenue, 42nd Street, Sixth Avenue to West 59th Street and the Central Park drives, so traffic around Midtown may be slow. Brooklyn's Park Slope Halloween Parade also marches today along Seventh Avenue from 15th Street to 3rd Street. Sunday is marathon race day, with wider citywide closures, as covered in our report yesterday.
