NHL: The Calgary Flames beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 at home on Sunday, with Sharangovich's third-period winner snapping the visitors' seven-game win streak. The Flames are 2-6-0.

Why it matters

The Calgary Flames beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday, Oct. 18, ending the visitors' seven-game winning streak and earning their first home victory of the season. Calgary improved to 2-6-0.

How it unfolded

Carolina's Kotkaniemi opened the scoring at 6:09 of the second period. Calgary answered through Gridin's first goal of the season at 18:30, then Frost — in his 400th NHL game — scored on the power play at 19:39 to put the Flames ahead, only for Chatfield to tie it again 17 seconds later. At 15:32 of the third, Sharangovich one-timed a cross-ice feed from Frost for the winner, his second goal of the season. Goaltender Cooley made 34 saves.

Coach's take

Flames coach Ryan Huska said afterward: "We need some good things to happen, because they're putting in a lot of good work in different areas and tonight it was nice to see them get rewarded against the team that is the standard right now." Hurricanes goalie Bussi made 31 saves as Carolina's seven-game win streak and franchise-record five-game road streak both ended.
