Automotive intelligence company ECARX and chip architecture firm Arm announced on November 2 that they have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly explore and develop next-generation high-performance AI computing platforms for mobility and broader cross-industry applications. The announcement, datelined London, said the move builds on an established, longstanding collaboration between the two companies.

Scope: from architecture definition to cybersecurity validation

Under the MoU, the two companies will advance high-level joint co-engineering spanning system-level architecture definition, performance optimisation, software enablement, functional safety, toolchain and cybersecurity validation, as well as ecosystem build-out. The agreement establishes a framework for joint research and development and product definition, with new platforms to be deployed in mobility and cross-industry applications. No product name, performance figure, production date or financial term was disclosed.

An exploratory agreement, not a product launch

The key caveat is that the MoU is non-binding: it is an exploration of cooperation, not a confirmed supply deal or product launch. ECARX, headquartered in London and listed on Nasdaq as ECX, describes itself as providing the intelligent brain for next-generation software-defined and AI-defined vehicles; Arm licenses processor architectures. The MoU extends their existing cooperation into joint development of next-generation AI computing platforms.
