Humanoid robots move beyond pilots: GXO adds Digit to two more warehouses, starting early 2027

Agility Robotics said on October 26 that commercial momentum for its Digit humanoid robot is expanding: existing customer GXO will deploy Digit at two additional U.S. facilities, in Statesville, North Carolina, and Lebanon, Tennessee. Deployments are expected to begin in early 2027 using Digit 4, with a transition to Digit 5 once it becomes commercially available.

From one site to three

The expansion builds on Digit's work at GXO's Georgia facility since 2024. GXO was the first customer to put Digit to work in live operations under a commercial agreement, the companies said. The partnership began with a proof-of-concept pilot in late 2023 at GXO's Flowery Branch site, followed in June 2024 by a multi-year robot-as-a-service agreement under which Digit moves totes onto conveyors alongside existing automation, managed through Agility's cloud platform, Agility Arc.

At the two new sites, Digit will handle highly repetitive material-handling tasks in e-commerce fulfilment. GXO is the world's largest pure-play contract logistics provider, with more than 150,000 team members across more than 1,000 facilities. Agility said the expansion shows customers have moved beyond asking whether humanoid robots can work, to deciding where they can scale.

Beyond GXO

Agility also reported three additional manufacturing customers in paid programs focused on specific manufacturing needs, laying the groundwork for larger deployments, and more than 30 prospective customers across automotive manufacturing, logistics, e-commerce, agricultural equipment, consumer products and defence. Chief executive Peggy Johnson will discuss commercial progress on an investor call at 12:00 p.m. ET on October 26.
