The capital's average Air Quality Index stood at 225 on Friday morning, in the 'poor' band, with several stations nearing 'very poor'; GRAP Stage-I is in force.

Why it matters

Full report

New Delhi woke up on Friday (October 23) under a layer of smog. Official data put the city's average Air Quality Index (AQI) at 225 at 9 am, in the 'poor' (201–300) category.

Station-wise data showed 38 monitoring stations in the 'poor' category and 18 in 'moderate'. Pusa recorded the highest AQI at 290, followed by RK Puram at 284, Jahangirpuri at 284 and Rohini at 279, all nearing the 'very poor' band.

On the weather front, the Safdarjung base station logged a minimum temperature of 19°C, 1.8 degrees above normal; the maximum is expected around 32°C with mainly clear skies.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Wednesday invoked Stage-I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR as a preventive measure against further deterioration.
