The Australian Federal Police said on October 23 that a 47-year-old Sydney man was sentenced today by Penrith Local Court to a nine-month recognisance order, with a conviction recorded. He pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm, contrary to section 474.15(2) of the Criminal Code.

The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation in June 2026 after receiving a report from a foreign law enforcement partner of an online threat to harm a foreign embassy located in Australia. The man was arrested at a Colyton home on July 9.

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October 2025 to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion.
