Toronto Halloween weekend travel: GO trains and UP Express airport line face detours and shutdowns Oct. 31–Nov. 1

· N GLOBE

Construction will disrupt Toronto-area rail service over Halloween weekend: UP Express airport trains stop entirely on October 31–November 1, replaced by direct GO buses to Pearson Airport, while four GO lines — Lakeshore East, Kitchener, Barrie and Stouffville — each get route-specific changes, with Friday-night cancellations on October 30 as well.

Passengers travelling through Toronto over Halloween weekend should check their trips in advance. According to current notices from GO Transit and UP Express, construction will interrupt airport-train service and change service on four GO train lines on October 31–November 1, with some Friday-night changes on October 30. These are planned service arrangements, not a shutdown of the whole GO network.

Pearson airport line: trains stop, buses run direct

On October 31–November 1, UP Express trains will not run at all. Replacement GO buses will travel directly between Union Station Bus Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1, without serving Bloor, Mount Dennis or Weston. On Friday, October 30, trains still run in the evening: the last airport-bound train leaves Union at 11 p.m., and the last Union-bound train leaves Pearson at 11:39 p.m.

Four GO lines, four different changes

On Lakeshore East, trains will run hourly between Durham College Oshawa GO and Union. On Kitchener, trains will operate only between Mount Pleasant and Mount Dennis, with no GO service at Bloor; regular routes 30 and 33 provide connections from communities farther west. On Friday night, the 11:34 p.m. Union-to-Mount Pleasant train is cancelled, replaced by a bus via Bramalea.

On Barrie, trains will run between Allandale Waterfront/Aurora and Downsview Park, with no trains onward to Union; most usual weekend trains are replaced by buses between Allandale Waterfront and Highway 407 Bus Terminal, and TTC Line 1 provides the connection downtown. On Stouffville, remaining trains run between Old Elm and Union, with southbound departures from Old Elm/Mount Joy up to 27 minutes later; most usual weekend trains are replaced by buses via Old Elm and Unionville, then directly to Union Station Bus Terminal, skipping Milliken, Agincourt and Kennedy, where riders are directed to the TTC.

Check the trip planner before leaving

The operators advise checking the official trip planner before travelling: replacement buses can have different departure times, and construction plans can change. Passengers with airport pickups or cross-region trips over Halloween weekend should allow extra time.
