Anthropic Amends IPO Filing: Q3 Revenue $16.96 Billion, Committed Compute Spend Rises to $895.4 Billion

· N GLOBE

Anthropic's amended S-1 filed November 2 adds third-quarter results — $16.96 billion in revenue and $95.6 billion in cash — and fills in a previously blank total: about $895.4 billion in purchase commitments and leases, mostly for compute. That is a commitment figure, not cash already spent.

Anthropic's amended IPO prospectus (S-1 Amendment No. 1), filed November 2, adds third-quarter financials and fills in a total left blank in the original filing: as of and subsequent to September 30, the company has entered into purchase commitments and leases with an aggregate committed spend of approximately $895.4 billion, substantially all of it related to compute and infrastructure.

On the financials themselves, the amendment reports third-quarter revenue of $16.96 billion, up from $1.38 billion a year earlier, but a return to a GAAP operating loss of $567 million after a single quarter of operating profit. As of September 30, Anthropic held $95.6 billion in cash and $36.3 billion in short-term investments.

How the $895.4 billion is built

The total has three parts: about $320.0 billion in formal contractual obligations, almost all of it ($313.8 billion) non-cancelable purchase commitments, mainly cloud hosting; about $451.2 billion of leases signed but not yet commenced, mostly starting between 2026 and 2028, with terms of up to 20 years (weighted average about 10); and other disclosed commitments. Anthropic says about $447.5 billion lands before the end of 2030.

By counterparty, the largest item is Broadcom at $161.2 billion in equipment lease rent over five years, followed by Google at at least approximately $121.3 billion for hosting from April 2026 to July 2033, regardless of actual usage; SpaceXAI at up to $120.5 billion, Amazon at at least $110 billion, Microsoft at $44.9 billion, Nscale at $44.6 billion and Lambda at $41.3 billion. The Daily Upside notes Broadcom alone could make Anthropic its largest XPU customer as soon as next year.

A commitment is not cash spent — and it is not free

The distinction matters: $895.4 billion sums signed commitments plus signed-but-not-yet-commenced leases, including 'up to' amounts, and is not cash already paid or certain to be paid in full; some contracts carry true-ups tied to actual usage, and totals vary with the cutoff date — earlier tallies of the same contracts ranged from roughly $518 billion to $637 billion for exactly that reason.

The financing structure deserves the same care: Broadcom has a separate $42 billion note facility that exists solely to finance quarterly rent payments on the Broadcom leases, paying 9% interest in kind and convertible into Anthropic stock — rising to 13% on new notes if certain revenue performance conditions are not met. In short, the landlord is lending the tenant the rent money, and Claude's revenue ultimately has to repay it.
