Los Angeles: 98-Unit Senior Affordable Housing Breaks Ground in Hollywood

Affirmed Housing has started construction on Prisma, a 98-unit affordable community for low-income seniors in Hollywood — half the units reserved for formerly homeless seniors — set for completion in December 2027.

Why it matters

Los Angeles faces a persistent shortage of housing for older adults, and affordable options are especially scarce in high-resource neighborhoods like Hollywood. Prisma targets low-income seniors, reserving 48 units for formerly homeless seniors and pairing housing with on-site support services.

The project, led by affordable-housing developer Affirmed Housing, sits at the intersection of North Orange Drive and De Longpre Avenue. The six-story building was designed by SVA Architects with an artistic facade reflecting Hollywood's creative character.

Project details

The community will have 98 homes: 96 studio apartments for seniors earning 30 to 50 percent of the area median income (AMI) — 48 of them reserved for formerly unsheltered seniors at 30 percent AMI — plus two two-bedroom apartments for on-site managers.

Amenities include about 3,500 square feet of shared space, two outdoor gathering areas (a street-corner front porch and a more private second-floor courtyard), a community room, laundry facilities and resident-services offices. Rooftop solar will offset a significant share of residents' electricity use, and the building is designed to meet CALGreen standards; 49 units will have mobility accessibility features and 10 will have communication accessibility features.

Affirmed Housing President Jimmy Silverwood said that for seniors, a safe, stable home combined with supportive services can make a meaningful difference in quality of life, helping older adults stay independent and build community. Completion is expected in December 2027.
