Toronto police said on the morning of October 31 that one of the three suspects in the October 29 Bridle Path home invasion has been identified as Daijohn Richards, 23, of Toronto, who investigators believe was shot in the right shoulder by an accomplice; a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for him, while the other two suspects remain unidentified and police warn all three are considered armed and dangerous.

Toronto police announced a major development on the morning of October 31 in the violent Bridle Path home invasion. Police said one of the three suspects has been identified as Daijohn Richards, 23, of Toronto, for whom a Canada-wide warrant has been issued; police have released his photograph and are asking anyone who knows his whereabouts to contact investigators immediately.

Suspect believed shot by an accomplice, discharged before he was linked to the case

Police Insp. Kristy Smith told reporters that investigators believe Richards was shot in the right shoulder by one of his accomplices during the struggle, and later sought treatment at St. Joseph's Health Centre, where staff notified police under Ontario's mandatory gunshot-wound reporting protocol. Officers spoke with him while he was receiving treatment, but did not arrest him because they had not yet established reasonable grounds linking him to the home invasion; the link was established only on Friday evening, through forensic work with the Centre for Forensic Science and canvassing in the community, by which time he had been discharged. Smith said investigators work on evidence, not suspicion.

Charges and the two suspects still outstanding

Richards is wanted on four counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound, four counts of robbery with a firearm, three counts of aggravated assault, and break-and-enter, prohibited-device and disguise offences. Police stress that all three suspects are considered armed and dangerous and warn the public not to approach them; anyone with information can contact the Hold Up Squad at 416-808-7350 or 33 Division at 416-808-3300. The other two suspects have not been identified and remain outstanding. The allegations have not been proven in court.

What happened, and this year's home-invasion figures

The attack took place at about 3:45 a.m. on October 29 at a home on Hyde Park Circle, near Bayview and Lawrence avenues. Three masked suspects armed with handguns and a hammer entered through the back door, confronted a family of four asleep in the home and demanded valuables, and fired multiple shots during the ensuing struggle. A 75-year-old man and women aged 26 and 28 suffered gunshot wounds, and the 75-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were also struck with a hammer; all four were taken to hospital. Police said on Thursday afternoon that two had life-altering injuries, and on Saturday that some of the victims have since been released. Police also said this was the 119th home invasion reported in Toronto so far this year, up 32.2 per cent on the same period in 2025, and that an increased police presence will continue in the area.
