Canada invests over $17M in Olympic and Paralympic sport institute network

The federal government announced more than $17 million for the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network in 2026–27, covering physiology, nutrition, mental performance, sport medicine and coaching.
Why it matters
Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport), announced on October 15 at the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba in Winnipeg more than $17 million in funding for the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COPSIN) in 2026–27, including an additional $5.4 million this year, to help Canadian athletes compete on the world stage.
What the funding covers
The investment will enhance support for athletes across physiology, nutrition, mental performance, sport medicine and expert coaching. "Behind every athlete is a team," van Koeverden said.
The announcement is part of $112 million in new Sport Support Program funding, providing national-level sport organizations with additional mid-fiscal-year funding through a streamlined process to support safe sport, expanded participation, athlete development and high-performance programs.
