Why it matters
With the November 3 general election approaching, Los Angeles County voters do not have to wait for Election Day: early voting is already open, and voters may cast a ballot at any vote center in the county, regardless of where they live. Voters who missed the registration deadline can still register and vote at participating centers.

Vote-by-mail ballots were mailed beginning October 1 to active registered voters and can be returned by mail, deposited in one of 429 official ballot drop boxes, or delivered to an operating vote center; mailed ballots must be postmarked by November 3, and election officials recommend mailing at least seven days ahead. No postage is required. Residents who missed the October 19 registration deadline can still register and vote through California's conditional voter registration process at participating vote centers. Los Angeles City Clerk Patrice Lattimore encouraged voters to plan ahead: "Voting early ensures your ballot is cast on Election Day."
